About

My name is Jasmine Torres. I was born in Stockton. I have always love my city because it is so diverse. I have three dogs named Teddy, Tinky, and Chester. I also have a fraternal twin sister who is only 15 seconds older than me. In my free time, I really love to draw. I have loved cartoons ever since I was a kid so I always end up drawing cartoons in my own style. I also really love watching older movies. One of my favorites is "The Wizard of Oz". Of course, I also love watching the older Disney movies too because they're the original cartoons. I also love listening to a lot of older music ranging from the 1950s to the 1980s. This is why my family will often refer to me as an "old soul". From time to time I love to travel to different places in California. One of my favorite summer places to travel to is Monterey. I really love hanging out on the beach and taking in the cool breeze. Whenever I get the chance too, I go hiking in places like Lake Tahoe and Big Basin. I really love the idea of challenging myself which is why I love going on hikes. I also really love watching sports. My family has always gone for Oakland teams, so that's who I root for. As well as watching sports I actually love going to games also. It's a whole different experience watching it in person than on tv.

About Me

Artist Statement

Art is a very interesting thing to me. I like creating it because it gives me a chance to show another side of my self. It can also be very fun to make depending on what the subject is. When approaching my art, my goal is to be able to keep working until I'm satisfied. One example of this was when I was creating my value paintingIt was taxing on me but  I kept working to try to get that perfect shade until I was content with what it looked like. My goal is to also reach the target audience. In my work, I want to be sure that it will appeal to anyone. When it comes to deciding on the theme of a project I always like to add some of my personal taste into it. I always try to keep it simple when it comes to materials. I always want to be sure that I don't spend a vast amount of time working on a project but I do want to be sure that it looks visually pleasing. I greatly utilize an xacto knife when it comes to getting a clean edge to my work. I personally think it's better than a paper trimmer. I will also use guillotine cutter but only for projects that consist of a thicker paper. I think those two cutters are the best for making sure my work looks nice. My current work is mostly painting based. It takes a lot of patience for me to get that perfect stroke of paint. It can sometimes be difficult. but I try to approach it the same way as I always do. I want to be sure that it looks good until I'm satisfied with what it looks like.

Artist influence

When it comes to my biggest inspiration as a graphic designer I really admire Josef Müller-Brockmann. His work is very elegant and clean. What I like most is the use of a grid in his posters. He also tends to use mainly shapes in his work which makes it much more interesting to look at. They look very organized and graphically pleasing. As a graphic designer, I hope to reach that expertise level of design especially when it comes to using graphics and illustrations. I also really like his style he doesn't overcrowd his work. He also doesn't get too obsessive about the color schemes. I really love that about him.
